Plumber Neath

Plumber working at the hose reels on the back of the ute

A Pit Village With Century-Old Pipes

Built for one colliery

Neath grew up around the 1906 Neath Colliery and its rail line, and once mining stopped there in 1951 its small weatherboard and fibro homes were left largely as they were. The housing has aged in place since.

Drains from the pit years

Glazed earthenware runs under the yards, and a hundred years of reactive clay and shale moving about has opened its joints. Large old garden trees feed off the water in those cracked lines, and some drains under the oldest cottages have deformed too far to clear.

Steel pipe and ageing gas

Unrenovated homes still run their first steel water services, which choke the pressure at the taps, and LPG setups that have served for decades carry regulators due for replacement. Census figures show a median age of 55 and 194 dwellings, 95.9% of them separate houses.

Four Hubs for This Housing

Blocked drains

Old glazed lines cleared, jetted and filmed, with tree root removal where roots have followed the cracks.

Plumber finishing a continuous-flow gas hot water install

Hot water

Long-serving storage tanks repaired or replaced, including heat pump systems for homes without a gas line.

Gas fitter checking an oven connection

Gas fitting

LPG regulators and lines renewed, new appliances connected, and gas leak detection in the older homes.

Plumber collecting gear from the ute toolbox

Emergency plumbing

Burst pipes and sewer overflows in the low yards on the Swamp Creek side, day or night.

Frosty winter starts are hard on the oldest tanks, and storm runoff moves through the lower edge of the village toward the creek. It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours).

When We're Not the Right Call

An LPG cylinder that's empty or due for exchange is a job for your gas supplier, not a gas fitter. If a storm has damaged the roof or cladding of a timber cottage, a builder does that repair.

What Locals in Neath Ask

Do you charge a call-out fee for jobs in Neath?

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours). Once the plumber has seen the fault the price is set in writing, and the work only goes ahead when you approve it.

Can you fix the old earthenware drains without digging up the yard?

Where the camera shows cracked joints but a pipe that's still round, a liner can seal it from inside and the yard stays put. If a run under one of the oldest cottages has lost its shape, that length has to be dug out, and you'll see which it is on the footage before any price.
