When Is Jetting the Right Tool?

Jetting earns its place when the problem is stuck to the pipe wall rather than lodged at a single point. Signs of that:

  • A drain that was cleared a few months back and is sluggish again
  • Fat and soap building up in the kitchen or laundry waste
  • Fine roots filmed at the joints on an earlier camera run
  • Silt washed into a yard line after heavy rain

In PVC lines on the newer blocks, the same nozzle is run at lower pressure for fat and paper. Jetting sits under our blocked drains hub, and the plumber in Aberdare who comes out brings both the jetter and the camera.

How We Do It

  1. 01

Open up at the nearest access

An outside gully, a floor waste or the pan collar, whichever puts the hose closest to the fault.

  2. 02

    Send the nozzle upstream

Rear-facing jets drive the head along the line while the front jet breaks the blockage and the side jets clean the full wall.

  3. 03

    Wash it through

Loosened roots and sludge are flushed down to the sewer ahead of the hose.

  4. 04

    Film the result

The camera runs the same line, so you see the bore clear and any damaged joint on screen.

What Shapes the Price of a Jetting Job?

  • What's in the pipe A thin coat of fat comes off in a pass or two, while a dense root mat may need a cutting nozzle and extra time
  • How far the hose travels A short branch by the kitchen is less work than a line crossing the whole back yard
  • Where the hose goes in A clear gully is straightforward; a buried access point may need uncovering first
  • Anything the camera turns up A broken length found on the footage gets a separate quote, and you decide on it later

Why Aberdare Lines Need a Proper Scour

Clay laid a lifetime ago

Much of the older grid still drains through earthenware, and the mortar in its joints has broken down, leaving open collars that roots can enter. A scour takes the root hair and sludge off the wall, which a cable leaves behind.

Ground that moves

The subsoil here is reactive clay, so each wet season and dry spell shifts the pipe a fraction. Where a joint has dropped, a step forms inside the line, and waste keeps catching there however clean the wall is. The follow-up footage shows whether that step is minor or needs repair.

Mixed housing, mixed pipe

Pre-war weatherboard and mid-century fibro homes sit beside newer brick veneer, so one street can have clay under one house and PVC under the next. The nozzle and pressure are set to suit whichever the camera finds.

What Customers Say

We talked through the options of our blocked kitchen sink drain (not just an s bend problem) and came to the perfect long term solution at a reasonable price.

When We're Not the Right Call

If a length has broken apart or slumped badly, jetting won't keep it open, and paying for clear after clear makes no sense. That section needs pipe relining or replacing instead. For roots that return each season, tree root removal deals with the entry point.

Answers on the High-Pressure Clear

Is jetting safe for the old clay sewers in these streets?

Yes, provided the setting is matched to the material. Clay is run gentler and a nozzle that works the wall without chipping the glaze. If the line already has a crack or open joint, the camera run afterwards puts it on screen so you know before it gets worse.

How does jetting compare with a cable machine?

A cable spins through the blockage and leaves most of the build-up on the pipe wall. The jet cleans right round the pipe and washes the debris away, so the line comes back nearer its full size. Which one is used depends on the pipe and what's in it.

How long does a jetted line stay clear?

That depends on the pipe more than the clear. Sound PVC cleaned of fat stays open for a long time if fat stays out of the sink. Old clay with an open joint will take roots again, which is why the footage shows its condition before you decide on any repair.

Can you jet stormwater lines as well as sewers?

Yes. Downpipe lines, pits and yard drains take the same nozzle, and storm season is when silt and leaves pack into them. The stormwater page covers that work, including the camera check when a line keeps overflowing.
