Emergency Plumber Aberdare

Aberdare Plumbing Co handles emergency plumbing in Aberdare for the faults that won't keep until morning: pipes that have burst, sewage surging back into the house, gas you can smell, or a cylinder that has torn open. Ring and describe the fault, and a licensed plumber comes out and fixes the price before any work starts.

Which Faults Count as a Plumbing Emergency?

The test is simple: will it do more damage, or put someone at risk, if it sits overnight? These qualify:

  • Water spraying from a split pipe or failed flexi hose inside a wall cavity or beneath the floorboards
  • Sewage welling up through a shower recess or gully, worst of all in a house with a single toilet
  • Any gas smell inside the house or near the meter
  • A hot water tank leaking from its base, or no hot water at all
  • Stormwater pouring back out of pits and downpipes in a heavy storm

Not sure where yours sits? Ring and explain what you're seeing. If it can safely hold until a daytime slot, that's what we'll suggest, and you can go back to bed.

Burst Pipe? What to Do Before We Arrive

Shut the meter tap first

It pays to know where your meter sits before anything goes wrong. When its tap won't budge, close the valve on the cold inlet at the hot water cylinder instead.

Open a garden tap

With the supply off, letting an outside tap run drains the pressure out of the pipework, so the split stops feeding the leak.

Keep water and power apart

If water is getting near power points or light fittings, flip the main switch off before you do anything else in that room.

Lift what you can

Pick rugs, boxes and anything else out of the water. When you call, list which taps and switches you've already turned off.

What Happens Once You Ring

  1. 01

    Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4063 3475 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

  2. 02

    A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

  3. 03

    Stop it, then repair it

The flow of water, sewage or gas is halted first, and the repair is finished on that visit if the parts are on hand.

  4. 04

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

Why Do Frosty Nights Catch Old Cottages Out?

Cold snaps find the tired cylinder

Area-level records count 6.4 frost days a year on average. A storage cylinder that has stood outside for decades is under the most strain on a clear winter dawn, and a split tank empties across the side path before anyone is up.

Rusted risers give no notice

Where a pre-war cottage still runs its first galvanised supply, rust thins the riser from within until it opens up inside a wall. The water can be through the lining before anyone goes looking for the meter.

New fittings, old house

A kitchen or bathroom renovated into an old cottage hangs off braided hoses, and those hoses wear out long before the older copper around them. One that bursts under a laundry tub can run for hours in an empty house.

A single toilet leaves no fallback

When an earthenware junction under the yard blocks late at night in a home with one toilet, there's nowhere else to go, and a slow drain becomes tonight's problem.

Storm season has its own list

Summer storms bring most of the 799 millimetres of annual rainfall, and older stormwater pipes can surcharge when a downpour arrives faster than they carry it away. That work is covered on the stormwater drains page.

The Ground Under the Old Grid

A 1904 village on moving clay

The streets here were drawn up in 1904 as the coalfields opened, and the sewers under the older blocks around Cessnock Street and Rawson Street are earthenware close to a hundred years old. Reactive clay beneath them swells after rain and contracts in drought, working the joints apart until waste and roots catch at the gaps.

High ground, fast runoff

The suburb sits on rising land east of the Cessnock town centre, so there's no river to back up into yards. The night-time risk is an old stormwater line overwhelmed by a storm burst.

Three eras of pipe

Pre-war weatherboard, mid-century fibro and later brick veneer each came with different pipework, so the plumber checks what the house is made of before cutting in: galvanised or copper for water, clay or PVC for waste.

What Changes the Price After Dark?

  • The hour you call A night or weekend visit attracts a loading, quoted on the phone first
  • Where the burst is A riser buried in a wall lining costs more labour than a pipe reachable from under the floor
  • What it joins onto Tying new copper into rusted galvanised takes longer than repairing modern plastic pipe
  • What gets replaced A new cylinder, hose or valve is itemised on the price you approve

Where the Urgent Work Sits on This Site

Drains and sewers

A sewer backing up at midnight is cleared, filmed and fixed through the blocked drains hub, and the sewer line itself has its own blocked sewer page.

Hot water

A split tank or a cold unit is diagnosed, then repaired or replaced through hot water, with a temporary tank when parts are needed.

Gas

A suspected gas escape belongs with a licensed gas fitter, and gas leak detection explains that work. If you can smell it now, leave the house and ring.

Unexplained water

Damp that appears with no obvious pipe failure is traced on water leak detection. Everything else, from taps to gutter guards, is listed by Aberdare Plumbing Co on the home page.

When We're Not the Right Call

If water is escaping between the meter and the street, that pipe is Hunter Water's, and their faults line sends a crew to it. Shut your own side first; if the leak keeps running, it's theirs. A burst that has soaked wiring needs an electrician to make it safe before any plumbing starts.

What customers say.

"I commend them for their very fast and efficient service when we had a burst pipe." Joan

Emergency Questions From Aberdare Homes

Do you take emergency calls in Aberdare overnight?

Yes. Available 24/7 means through the night and across weekends too, whether a pipe has split, the sewer is overflowing, gas is in the air or the tank has given out. Night and weekend work is dearer, and the loading is quoted during the call, before anyone is sent.

A pipe has burst in my old cottage. What now?

Close the meter tap, or the cold valve on the cylinder if the meter won't turn. Open a garden tap to bleed the pressure off, move anything on the floor, then ring. Pre-war cottages with galvanised pipe can have more than one weak spot, so mention how old the plumbing is.

Is a blocked sewer at night an emergency?

It can be. An older home here with a single toilet has no backup once the earthenware junction blocks. If water is climbing in the shower recess or the pan won't empty, call that night instead of waiting for daylight, because an overflowing gully only gets worse.

Does an after-hours visit cost more?

Yes. Callouts after dark and on weekends are charged at a loaded rate, and the amount is given before the booking is made. After that it runs like a daytime job: the plumber inspects, you get a fixed price, and nothing starts until you agree to it.
